Molecular dynamics study on low-energy sputtering properties of MgO surfaces

چکیده
In an effort to understand microscopic processes occurring between MgO protective layers and impinging plasma ions in a discharge cell of plasma-display panel, sputtering properties of MgO 100 surface by He, Ne, and Xe atoms are studied with molecular dynamics simulations. Interatomic potentials between constituent atoms are fitted to first-principles data sets for representative configurations. Various incident directions of ions are considered with kinetic energies under 100 eV. It is found that sputtering yields for the Ne atom are largest among tested noble gases. The angle dependence of sputtering yields indicates that 111 -oriented MgO films are much more vulnerable to ion attacks than 100 -oriented layers. A surface model including the monolayer step is also studied and it is found that the yields increase substantially for grazing-angle incidence. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. Molecular dynamics studies of the chemical sputtering of carbon-based materials by hydrogen bombardment
A central issue in the performance of tokamak fusion devices is the choice of the plasma-facing materials. During the device operation the plasma-facing surfaces are subject to extreme heat and particle loads, as they are impinged on by escaped fusion plasma particles. Although carbon-based materials have excellent thermomechanical properties in view of the high heat flux, their use in the next...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of Al Energetic Nano Cluster Impact (ECI) onto the Surface
On the atomic scale, Molecular Dynamic (MD) Simulation of Nano Al cluster impact on Al (100) substrate surface has been carried out for energies of 1-20 eV/atom to understand quantitatively the interaction mechanisms between the cluster atoms and the substrate atoms. The many body Embedded Atom Method (EAM) was used in this simulation. We investigated the maximum substrate temperature Tmax and...
متن کاملIdentification of RNA-binding sites in artemin based on docking energy landscapes and molecular dynamics simulation
There are questions concerning the functions of artemin, an abundant stress protein found in Artemiaduring embryo development. It has been reported that artemin binds RNA at high temperatures in vitro, suggesting an RNA protective role. In this study, we investigated the possibility of the presence of RNA-bindingsites and their structural properties in artemin, using docking energy ...
متن کاملEffects of the surface structure and cluster bombardment on the self-sputtering of molybdenum
The understanding of different features of the sputtering of materials lies in understanding the factors contributing to the emission of atoms from a regular crystal structure at the surface. Although the sputtering of fcc crystals has received much attention, the database on bcc materials is still scarce. We use molecular dynamics simulations to study the self-sputtering of the (100), (110), (...
متن کاملComputer modeling and electron microscopy of silicon surfaces irradiated by cluster ion impacts
A hybrid molecular dynamics model has been applied for modeling impacts of Ar and decaborane clusters, with energies ranging from 25 to 1500 eV/atom, impacting Si surfaces. Crater formation, sputtering, and the shapes of craters and rims were studied. Our simulation predicts that on a Si(1 0 0), craters are nearly triangular in cross-section, with the facets directed along the close-packed (1 1...
